The Covid-19 pandemic has affected over 180 countries globally and is particularly challenging for India because of its population density and stressed public health systems. Experts agree that the best way of dealing with this crisis is through preventative measures, like social distancing, quarantining probable cases, and following good personal hygiene. But as we go through these testing times in our homes, grateful for access to basic amenities, daily necessities, and regular income, some are not so fortunate.
Daily wage laborers, taxi drivers, house helps, sanitation workers, medical workers, health professionals, and thousands of others are at a huge risk of contracting Covid-19, with possibly grave consequences. For them, every day has been a struggle due to income instability, lack of access to preventative measures, and working to screen and treat affected people.
It has already been six months since the world was forced to shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. We were advised to wear masks, face shields, and be 6ft socially distant from one another to avoid the spread of the virus. The entire human race was startled from millions of reported COVID-19 cases to thousands of people losing their livelihoods. Currently, there are more than 31 million coronavirus cases. With the coronavirus still ongoing, people are more aware that the virus can be more contagious than ever because of the cold weather. We are expected to see an increase in the COVID-19 cases and are advised to practice strict social distancing.
Millions of people are still unable to pay for necessities including rent, utilities, and food. With fears of hunger, homelessness, and certain hopelessness on the rise for this already vulnerable population, they need us now more than ever. Together, WE CAN OVERCOME! Together, WE ARE STRONGER. Big or small, every effort counts, and it will all have a great impact on someone's life.
